Troubleshooting

Start here. Documents, then the Page not in this list? box. Paste the full web address and choose Why not?. It answers for any address.

It has not been read yet. If it was published in the last day, wait for the overnight read. If it is older, check that something on your site links to it, because pages are found by following links.
The page tells search engines to skip it. That instruction lives in the page itself. Your web team removes it, and the page appears after the next read.
It is members only. Nothing to fix. Members find it when signed in.
The address is wrong, or the page has gone. Check the address. Links to it appear in the Broken links report.
Somebody removed it from search. Use Restore on the Documents screen.
An exclusion covers it. Change the pattern under Crawls, Exclusions, then restore it.

Tell us: the full web address, and what the Why not? answer said.

The page is no longer available to search. Look for an amber note on the pin. Repoint it at a live page, or use Turn this into a promotion if the page is members only.
The search does not contain the phrase you pinned. Pin the phrase people actually type. The Worklist shows their real wording.
The pin belongs to a different search box. Check the Applies to column.

Tell us: the exact phrase you typed, and the page you expected first.

It is set to show only on an exact search. Add the exact phrasings people use, or switch it to show whenever the phrase appears.
None of its keywords match what was typed. Compare them with the real searches in the Worklist.
It is switched off, outside its dates, or set for another search. Check Status, the dates and Applies to.

Tell us: the promotion title and the exact search you tried.

No page states the answer plainly. Open the top few results and look for a sentence that answers the question directly. If there is none, add a short, plain paragraph to the most relevant page, or write an answer.
It was asked once, mid-typing. Act when the same question comes up again.
The search is too short. Check Minimum words before an AI answer on Search Experience.

Tell us: the question as typed, and the page you believe should have answered it.

The closest pages were related rather than direct. The answer names the pages it used. Improve the wording on the page that should have answered it. The assistant only repeats what your content says.
It quoted a page that is not first in the results. That is expected. See Why the AI answer can differ from the results below it.

Members use a different word from your content. Add a synonym.
The right page exists but does not rank first. Pin it. A synonym makes words equal; it does not push a page up.

Tell us: the search, what came up, and what you expected instead.

They cover different time periods. Set both to the same period before comparing.
Broken links are counted two ways, on purpose. The crawl report counts what one overnight pass happened to follow. The broken links report checks every destination on its own schedule. Use the broken links report for fixing.

The change applies to a different search box. Check Applies to.
You are testing a search that was answered a moment ago. Recent answers are held briefly for speed. Try a new browser tab, or slightly different wording.
The change depends on content being read again. Anything about the page itself waits for the overnight read. Check again tomorrow.

Click Try again or Retry. If it says "The embedded admin could not start" or "Answer Buddy admin is not available for this site", contact us.
