The AI answer and its sources

When a search looks like a question, a short written answer appears above the results, under the heading Answer from this website.

When an answer appears

  • When the search ends in a question mark, or has at least a few words. Your organisation sets the minimum, usually two words.
  • On the first page of results only.
  • If a filter is selected, the answer is written from the filtered content.
  • If the search had a spelling mistake that was corrected, the answer is for the corrected words.

Sources

Under the answer is a numbered list headed Sources: the pages the answer came from, each with its type and date, for example "Web page · 3 Sep 2026" or "PDF". Three are shown. Click + more to see the rest. Each source opens the page itself, so you can read it in full.

Long answers

A long answer is shortened. Click Show more to read all of it.

The note under the answer

A short note appears under every answer. The standard wording is: "AI-generated from this site's content. Verify important details." Your organisation can change the wording.

When there is no answer

Sometimes the heading reads No direct answer, followed by Closest pages we found. That means the matching pages mention your words but none of them states the answer plainly. The results are still shown underneath.

This is deliberate. An answer stitched together from pages that were merely nearby would read just as confidently as a correct one. A visible "no direct answer" is safer than a confident guess.
